Reverse Phone Services – Are they Useful?

Reverse phone look up’s are a relatively new phenomenon. But what do they do and why are they so useful? Well, have you ever wondered who your life partner or spouse sneaks out to the yard or garage to talk to? It’s probably perfectly innocent and nothing to worry about, but to put your mind at rest you’ll need to use a reverse cell directory.

Or perhaps you’ve been getting those calls at 2am and no one’s on the other end. It’s really annoying and trying to track down the caller ca become an obsession. Now with the new directories it’s not the problem it once was. And you may find that it’s a really important call that just keeps getting ‘lost’. I’ve had a few of these from relatives in the UK, so it was really useful to track down the caller!

Or even the ubiquitous crank calls that plague us all from time to time. Here mostly you just want to get hold of the caller and just let them know that you know who they are – or talk to their parents as it’s usually kids. Either way no more crank calls.

Even if you’re a member of the ‘Do Not Call’ Registry you’ll still get telemarketing calls (by the way if you’re not on the national do not call list – you should be  Click the link to sign up). With a quick look-up you can find out who is calling and ask them to stop. If that fails you have the information available to report them to the FTC and other organizations. You can now add your cell phone number to the do not call registry too! Isn’t it a shame we don’t have a do not email list :-)

What about if there’s a strange number on your phone bill. Did you call it? What’s it all about? A quick trip over to the detective and once again you have all of the information at your finger tips to decide what to do – either dispute the call, or find out who was called and why.

Finally this can be used to re-connect with lost friends, family and loved ones. Although to be perfectly honest you have the phone number – give them a call! Mind you they may have given up the number so perhaps a quick check might be in order after all!

If you’re wondering why it’s not free, it’s because of the lack of any centeralized database. These services have to pay to build their data and make it accessable to the public. Will this change in the future? Not likey as privacy acts like the 411 wireless act are aimed at keeping this information private. Until recently you’d have had to hire a private detective and spent a fortune but with the internet that’s all changed. It’s now not very expensive at all and for less than $40 you get access for a full year.

Getting annoying calls in the midnight and wee hours are absolutely a pain. I think such a feature is necessary to track down people who involve in such absurd activities. I am glad that it takes care of the DND option too.

I agree. Iv’e been getting some annoying calls about credit cards at all hours of the day and night. I’ve used the reverse phone services to find out what I could, then entered a complaint to the FTC. I hope it stops the calls!

Cell phone reverse lookup is a very useful tool. I used it to see who a number on my girlfriend cell phone was. I was only dialed when I was not at home. Come to find out it was only a family member that wanted to send me a Christmas gift but didn’t know my address since I moved. She could have used it…lol. It was worth the few bucks I paid for the truth and peace of mind I got from finding out it was some lover or something…lol
    Thanks for the article.
